Tough life of influencers

Everybody knows somebody who has x thousand followers and they do not even know anything about life and themes they are sharing. Sometimes they are really sharing disinformation. Why are they not somehow responsible for that?

In Czech Republic is now a big theme the case of Chef Kamu who was repeatedly sharing photos from Photo Bank even though she is proud of her styling and photos. Together with all of that she is sharing questionable tips on how to be healthy and pure. There is a very nice article about it (only in Czech)here. I can see similar people around the world now trying to be influencers but they do not have any education or expertise to share healthy or parenting tips on social media. But we are creating this problem because we are following them and like their photos and texts. We are feeding them our trust. Why are we so keen to follow people like this?

Experts on social media

Of course there are many people on social media who could be called influencers and they are really experts and they know what they are telling people. They have facts and research etc. I myself am following some cooks, pediatricians, nutritionists, fitness coaches, dental hygienists etc.

On the other hand we have a whole bunch of celebrities on social media. And I think we cannot get rid of that bad habit to follow them. If they are giving people something, that is questionable.

How can somebody be an influencer if he/she is not having any additional value for others? Really is enough to just have nice photos? Maybe you will ask me why I have the alopecia profile, do I want to be an influencer? Hell no. I just want to help people like me, to see my life with this disease and help them to accept themselves. Here in Czech Republic people are not talking about it enough and I am afraid there will be more of us in the future, so we should be prepared to see bald people more in the streets. And social media is now the only way to show it.

Increasing depressions from social media

Somebody is overwhelmed with all the "perfect pictures", somebody is depressed that they do not have such a great life as the Instagram icon they are following etc. There are many reasons to have anxiety or distress caused by social media. That is a proven phenomena. It is very sad, because these media were meant to connect people. Why is it such a dangerous trend?

Social media is not showing the whole truth and even though we know about it we are still stressed about it. For example my personal account is not showing the real truth about my life without hair. Why? I just did not want people to ask me all the time if I am sick. I am not posting there so much, I am more like an observer on social media. So I am showing there just a little part of my life. The same is on the @mamasalopecii profile, where I am showing mostly only the alopecia and a little bit of my personal life. I think that is a great balance. But so did the rest of the people, they are showing us only what they want us to see. And the perfect life is getting them money, not a depressed one. Even though they have bad days maybe more times a week than you have. But why are we not showing the truth? Are we ashamed? Or is it just business?

What I do not understand at all is sharing babies and kids all the time on social media. I am not a fan of this because there are so many dangerous things about it and I think it is not okay to do that so much. In the USA they are even suing parents for doing that. That might come here one time too.

Million dollar business

To be an influencer is quite a good job, mainly abroad but here it is getting bigger too. You are cooperating with many brands, if you are decent enough, only with brands you really believe in. But somebody is doing everything just to get more followers. Maybe it is better to think about all the things our favourite influencers are doing or recommending. Not everything written on social media is true, mainly when it comes to health. And do not torment yourselves with perfect pictures from Bali etc. Better to turn off your phone and go visit beautiful places Czech Republic is offering and help our tourism after coronavirus. Live your life to the fullest and do not bother with what somebody has and you do not. In the end nobody will count the likes.
